"Spin-Spin" tool: The rivet nut is screwed onto the threaded mandrel of the pneumatic power tool and then inserted into a hole in the workpiece. When the power tool is activated, the mandrel rotates rapidly to pull the threaded portion of the shank toward the blind side of the workpiece to form a bulge around the unthreaded portion. When the bulge presses against the back of the plate, it creates a clamping force that holds the plate in place. Once the rivet nut is tight, the mandrel rotates in the opposite direction to disengage from the nut, leaving the internal threads of the rivet nut intact.
"Spin-Pull" Tool: Similar to the "Spin-Spin" tool, an air motor is used to spin the nut onto the mandrel. Once the rivet nut is inserted into the workpiece, hydropneumatic pressure is used to pull the mandrel back a certain distance to set it. The air motor is then re-engaged to pull the mandrel out of the rivet nut. These tools are ideal for plastic workpieces.
"Pull-to-Pressure" tool: this tool works the same as a "spin-pull" tool, except instead of pulling to a specific distance, it pulls to a specific pressure. When the fastener is set into the workpiece, hydropneumatic pressure is used to pull the mandrel back. Then, when the preset pressure is reached, the air motor pulls the mandrel back out of the nut. If you are fastening metal or a hard plastic, a "pull-to-pressure" tool is ideal and durable.
