Original Pre-WW1 British Royal Navy Officers Bicorn Hat Epaulettes NAMED Crate

Up for sale is by far one of the most impressive pieces I have acquired in a long time. This is an amazing set, in very good condition given its age. I personally believed this to be from the First World War period. However several collectors I showed this piece to all told me they were sure it was earlier, dating it to turn of the century. The most remarkable thing about this set is that the officers name “C.J. Wood” is written on top of the case. If you’re handy with research you might be able to find more information on this officer.
The condition of the bicorn hat is very impressive, no damage that I can see, cap is still very much stiff and firm like it would have been out of the uniform shop. The epaulettes are also very nice condition, the right epaulette has a bit of gold bullion wire that is sticking up, it’s such an easy fix by just using a stitch or a small dab of adhesive to keep it in place. The sword belt is also beautiful and almost never present with these sets. The belt is soft and pliable, the buckle is also very nice with just a touch or two with patina that is easily cleaned, I like to leave that up to the buyer whether they want to clean it or not (personally I like to see the patina).
The crate itself is solid, the lid looks as though it was somehow permanently attached to the body of the crate and had hinges. However I cannot seem to get the hinges to hook into place. So for the time being the lid is not 100% attached. The inside walls of the crate are all very nice, some of them are starting to separate just from age and from being improperly stored. Remember this item is 121 years old!
Overall the condition considering its age is phenomenal! Named sets like these don’t come up for sale often, the bicorn hat is just such an iconic piece the collector would we wise to add this to their collection!
