    Description

    VINTAGE ASIAN RED WEDDING CHEST/ARMOIRE.
I originally purchased this in NYC and was told it was from late 1800’s early 1900’s. It is red with a large round brass medallion split in half, one side on each door. Brass hardware on the door and drawer pulls, as well as the lock feature. One of the locking mechanisms has come off but I have it and it can easily be reattached.
Two large doors open to reveal ample storage space with one shelf (more could be added) and attached to shelf are two drawers with 2 original pulls to open. The bottom wood slats of the armoire lift up for more storage.
It is handmade, no nails were used in the construction of the armoire, demonstrating the true craftsmanship, skill, antiquity, and beauty of this piece.
Nothing has been added or removed since in my possession. I did carve a small hole in the back of it for wires when I used it as an entertainment center for the TV & stereo.
This chest would add a rich touch to any decor. It is a gorgeous statement. It has served me well as a closet, entertainment center, bar, and extra storage.
    It’s dimensions are approximate:
    70” height
    23-1/2” depth
    42-1/2” width.
I have been told this was part of a bride’s dowery, to fill with silks, fabrics, and clothing.
This piece is worn and shows it as expected for its age. There may be signs of shrinkage and age cracks that are again typical for its age but it is sturdy. As an antique, I think it adds to the charm and character.
