WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT IT: an exceptional small pair of earrings in the form of the antelope kachina in a design that is well documented as being the work of Dexter and Rosemary Cellicion. This is very old dimensional mosaic inlay work in stunning design. The stones on this piece are all natural stones and they are in excellent vintage condition. There is turquoise iridescent mother of pearl, jet and red abalone and serpentine. CG Wallace period work. This is a great pair of earrings, the mother of pearl is luminescent and the beauty of design arresting. Many consider Dexter Cellicion to be one of the great Zuni master silversmiths. I believe this piece was made in the 1940s; it's an early one! I'll be including stainless backs which are big enough to help keep them in place and well balanced. I've included two other pieces of his in the pictures above: a pin and a bracelet which you might enjoy considering; they are available separately. BACKGROUND  : The Antelope Kachina is one of the Corn Dance Ceremony participants though considered part of the mixed dance as well. He dances for the increase of antelope and brings rain when he comes. He was made into jewelry by various Zuni artists, but each design is distinctive for each family of artists and these earrings are distinctively that of Dexter Cellicion who lived from 1931-1999.
CONDITION: excellent vintage, wearable and collectible with minimal age related wear.
MEASUREMENTS:
• 3/4" H x 1/2" W diameter
• weight 2.09grams and 2.15grams, each, very light on the ears, comfortable to wear and so beautiful!
• unsigned but strongly attributed to Zuni master silversmith, Dexter Cellicion. Rosemary was his first wife so she would have shared the work
• not marked for metal content but it's at least coin at .900 or sterling at .925 silver
SUMMARY: This is an unusually beautiful pair of earrings in the form of the antelope kachina of very old vintage which I'd date to the 1940s, by one of the great Zuni master
silversmiths, Dexter Cellicion. This pair of earrings is superb and very hard to find, and a great signature piece, highly collectible. It is elegant.
